Download the game
One file, nothing more
The launcher installs the game, keeps it up to date and starts it. On first run it downloads about 2.9 GB, after that only what has changed.
How the installation works
- Create an empty folder, for example
Documents\Dragonicaor right on your desktop. - Put the downloaded file in there and run it.
- The launcher downloads the game into a
Clientsubfolder. Depending on your connection this takes a while. - Afterwards a shortcut named Dragonica Nostalgia sits on your desktop. From then on a double-click is enough: the launcher briefly checks for updates and starts the game.
The folder should belong to you. A standard user account may not create anything directly under C:\ or in Program Files — the installation fails there.
Windows warns you on first run
The launcher is not digitally signed — a certificate for that costs money every year. Windows therefore shows a blue notice, „Windows protected your PC“.
Click More info, then Run anyway. The message will not come back.
Some antivirus programs react for the same reason — an unknown, unsigned program that downloads files. It is a false alarm. If in doubt, check the file with a service such as VirusTotal before running it.
Already have the game installed?
Then put the launcher next to your existing Client folder — it recognises the installation and downloads nothing twice. If it cannot find it, it asks before downloading anything.
If the game reports a missing DLL
Then the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) is missing. The game is from that era and needs the old library. It comes from Microsoft and can be installed freely.
If Windows instead reports a missing d3dx9_*.dll, install the DirectX 9 runtime — also from Microsoft. Windows 10 and 11 do not ship with it.
If you get stuck, write to us at amh.puetz@web.de or ask a character with [GM] in their name in-game.
You still need an account
Without an account you cannot get into the game. It takes a minute and costs nothing.
